Doctor Alexandre Carvalho Pinto Coelho

Dr. Alexandre Carvalho Pinto Coelho (Belo Horizonte, December 28, 1977) is an Armigerous Noble of Portugal (Fidalgo de Cota de Armas de Portugal) and a Brazilian/Portuguese physician, registered both in Brazil and in Portugal, specializing in nephrology, with a consolidated career spanning clinical practice, academia, and research in the field of kidney disease. He holds a medical degree, a Master's degree in Public Health, and is a full member of the Brazilian Society of Nephrology, with practice focused on clinical nephrology and renal replacement therapy.

Academic Background

He graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). He completed his medical residency in Internal Medicine at the Hospital Foundation of the State of Minas Gerais (FHEMIG) and also in Nephrology at São Paulo State University (UNESP). He has been a full member of the Brazilian Society of Nephrology (SBN) since 2006, with further training in clinical research at Harvard Medical School and a Master's degree in Public Health from UFMG. He also holds a revalidated medical diploma and an Integrated Master's degree in Medicine from NOVA Medical School, in Portugal.

Professional Activity

He is the founder of a technology company (AUVA), and also works as a physician at healthcare institutions in Belo Horizonte. Since 2013, he has served as a medical expert in the state public service. In the field of clinical research, he has participated as a sub-investigator in several clinical trials and currently leads, as principal investigator, a study on cardiovascular mortality in patients on dialysis.

Cultural and Academic Background

He was a Professor of Internal Medicine at UFMG and at UFSJ, also taking part in the training of resident physicians and specialists at several hospitals. His scientific output focuses on chronic kidney disease, hemodialysis, and renal replacement therapy, notably his research on hospital admissions of patients on hemodialysis through the Brazilian public health system (SUS). He received the best poster award at the 15th Minas Gerais Nephrology Congress (2023) and was selected, among two openings, for the Brazilian Society of Nephrology scholarship program for the American Society of Nephrology Congress (2026). He is President of the Monarchist Circle of Minas Gerais (Círculo Monárquico de Minas Gerais), having been chosen from a shortlist of three candidates by His Imperial and Royal Highness Dom Bertrand of Orléans and Braganza. He also serves as President of the Association of Brazilian and Portuguese Nobles (Associação dos Fidalgos Brasileiros e Portugueses).
