Letter from the President
The Association of Brazilian and Portuguese Nobles (Associação de Fidalgos Brasileiros e Portugueses) was conceived and formally established in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, on December 2, 2024. It is an association of individuals with registered or certified noble status—an independent, monarchist, and non-partisan Brazilian confraternity. Its members share a common interest in the restoration of the Monarchy in Brazil and Portugal through their legitimate historical representatives, as well as in mutual (non-financial) support among its Full Members, Foreign Members, and Supporters/Collaborators.
Thus, the association is a Brazilian organization operating under the name *Associação de Fidalgos Brasileiros e Portugueses* (Association of Brazilian and Portuguese Nobles) and the acronym AFBP.
That year, a group of individuals with shared interests—all of proven noble lineage—took the initiative to form a working group. They aimed to discuss matters related to dynastic law, the monarchy, the law of nobility, and the law of honors, while also drawing upon related disciplines such as heraldry, vexillology, archival science, and, naturally, genealogy, to exchange information and provide mutual support. From this initiative emerged a non-profit Brazilian organization dedicated to studying and promoting the dynastic, noble, and honorific heritage of Brazil—encompassing both its own heritage and that of Portuguese origin.
The AFBP aspires to serve as a cultural touchstone for unity and friendship among the noble descendants of these two nations (and others), paying special attention to restoring monarchical, noble, and honorific traditions where they have been suspended, and maintaining them where they remain preserved. Eligibility for membership is reserved exclusively for those with recognized or certified noble ancestry, and applications are subject to review by an admissions committee. The AFBP’s organizational structure is well-defined, comprising an Executive President, Secretaries-General for Brazil and Portugal (and potentially other countries), a Chancellor, and various consultants, genealogists, and legal experts to ensure excellence in its work and that of its members.
The AFBP’s mission also includes researching, preserving, and promoting its members' genealogical heritage, fostering a deeper understanding of the cultural and historical ties between Brazil, Portugal, and other European countries with significant monarchical traditions.
